Wi-Fi Motion Sensing works by analyzing Wi-Fi signal changes between your Activity Sensors (Alarm Pod, SensePlug, SensePods). Because of this, it may occasionally detect unintended movement from pets, robot vacuums, or activity outside the room.
Before troubleshooting, verify your setup:
- Placement: Ensure all Activity Sensors are on the same floor.
- Spacing: Keep devices 3 to 10 meters (10 to 30 feet) apart.
- Clear path: Make sure there are no large objects blocking the Wi-Fi signals between the devices.
How to reduce unintended motion detection?
- Adjust sensitivity for pets and robot vacuums
- Pets and robot vacuums may trigger motion detection when they roam near your Activity Sensors.
- To fix it: Lower the system's sensitivity by going to Settings > Sensitivity > Low.
- Move your Activity Sensors away from shared walls and common Areas
- Your sensors might be picking up movement from neighboring units, public hallways, or outside areas.
- To fix it: Relocate your devices away from shared walls, entry doors, and windows that face common areas.
- Set up in residential environment
- Testing the system in temporary, busy spaces (like open-plan offices or meeting rooms with glass partitions) may cause interference from nearby foot traffic.
- To fix it: For the most accurate results, install your system in a residential unit.
