How the Thread network works
All the devices in your place work together on the same Thread network.
- Plugged-in devices like the Alarm Pod, SensePlug and SensePod help strengthen the connection by extending the network’s reach. This ensures that even devices in far corners of your place stay connected.
- Battery-powered accessories like Door Sensors, PIR Motion Sensors, Keypads save energy by staying in low-power mode most of the time. They rely on plugged-in devices to keep connected.
The role of a Thread Border Router
For your Thread network to connect to your home WiFi and the Internet, you need at least one Thread Border Router.
- The Alarm Pod, SensePlug or SensePod can act as Thread Border Routers, and they’ll be set up automatically as such when needed.
- Before installing a battery-powered accessory, make sure you’ve already set up a Thread Border Router in that area.
