This guide is meant to help testers enroll in the aiCare test program to install their devices. It describes in which conditions to use the devices, where to place them and how to install them. Read along this guide while you install the devices to make sure that the performances will be optimal.
The installation flow consists in the following steps:
- Use an invite for the nami wellness dashboard
- Create a profile in the nami wellness dashboard
- Install your kit with nami setup app (~15min)
- Look at the nami care analytics in the wellness dashboard
Conditions of use
-
One person
The homeCare monitoring platform focuses on solo agers. Multiple person living in the same home are not well supported by some analytics.
-
One floor
The platform only covers a single floor for now, which will be associated in the nami system to what nami calls a zone (or an area). If the home has multiple floors, install your devices on the floor where the bedroom is located.
1. Use an invite for the nami wellness dashboard
You will receive an invite link from nami along with your pack.
It will look like this: https://app.nami.surft/wellness/client-invite/...
- Open the link in a web browser to land in the wellness dashboard sign in page.
- Use your google or apple account to sign up.
Note: For security reasons, wellness invites are one-time use and expire 30 days after their generation.
2. Create a new profile in the nami wellness dashboard (only available after using an invite)
Tap on "+ create profile" on the top right corner
A profile refers to the person you plan to monitor with your aiCare kit. You will need to define a name and a timezone for the profile. The name can refer to the person or the home in which the person lives.
3. Install your kit with the nami setup app (~15min)
Download the nami setup app: Download the nami setup app
Sign in the nami setup app
Go to your profile and open the Configuration tab
Open the nami setup app on your mobile phone.
Tap on "Get Started" then scan the QR code displayed in the dashboard.
Plan ahead the placement of the devices
Before you install the devices, plan ahead their placement in your home. Below are key concepts about the placement of nami devices for this use case.
Examples
Generic considerations
- ✅ All the devices must be on the same floor
- ✅ Any device must be within 10 meters of a SensePlug for connectivity. This maximum distance is an estimate and depends on the obstacles between devices (walls and such)
- ✅ Create a wide triangle. For optimal coverage, avoid using sockets in a straight line. Pick ones that form a wide triangle instead.
- ❌ Avoid metals and mirrors. Using sockets near electronic appliances or large reflecting objects as they interfere with Wi-Fi signals
- ❌ Clear obstructions. Avoid using sockets hidden in cabinets or directly behind dense objects as they may reduce the Wi-Fi signal range
- ❌ Do not put two SensePlugs in the same room and within less than 3 meters of each other
Room with the Wi-Fi router: First SensePlug nearby
- Make sure that the first SensePlug will be within 10 meters of the Wi-Fi router. Avoid having obstacles between the SensePlug and the Wi-Fi router (like thick walls and large metallic objects).
- ⚠️ Only the first SensePlug has this requirement, which is why the order of installation is important
Bedroom: one SensePlug + one PIR Motion sensor
- One SensePlug (SP3 in the example above) must be installed in the bedroom, on a side of the room and away from the bed
- One PIR Motion sensor must be installed facing the bed from a side or opposite wall. Place it at least 1.5 meters (5 ft.) above the ground
Bathroom / Restrooms: one PIR Motion sensor
- The device should be facing the inside of the room, opposite to the entry door. Place it at least 1.5 meters (5 ft.) above the ground
- If you have separated bathroom and restroom (WC), prioritise the restroom
- ❌ Do not put the device in a area exposed to water (like in the shower or above the bathtub)
Entry area: one Door sensor + one SensePlug nearby
- The door sensor must go on the main entry door of your home. If your home has multiple entry doors, pick the one that is most used - do precise it in the feedback form
- ❌ Do not put the door sensor in a door inside your home (like the bedroom door)
- Make sure that one SensePlug will be within 10 meters of the front door. This maximum distance is an estimate and depends on the obstacles between devices (walls and such)
Other areas: Living room, Kitchen: one SensePlug
- Place the remaining SensePlug in a part of the home that is not yet covered, like the Living room. If it is already covered, please adapt accordingly. The three SensePlugs should be placed in different rooms of your home, evenly spread out and within reasonable distance
Install the devices
Pre-installation check list
- There is stable Wi-Fi coverage in (at least) parts of the home
- You have the Wi-Fi password ready to use on your phone
- You have planned the placement for each device in your kit (see previous section)
⚠️ The aiCare pack must be installed using the single device installation flow. We are working on bringing the kit installation experience for this pack.
Install the SensePlugs
-
Tap on the Set up a single device option at the bottom of the page
-
Pick SensePlug.
⚠️ Important note: Keep this device powered on at all times. This device acts as a Thread border router. This means that if this device goes offline, the whole installation will disconnect.
Install the Door Sensor
Grab the box, here is what you should have inside. The Door Sensor consists of two parts: the main sensor unit and a smaller magnetic component. There should be a white tab attached to the main sensor unit, to prevent the battery from being used.
You need to commissioning the door sensor before you can mount it on the door frame.
- Tap on the Set up a single device option at the bottom of the page
- Pick "Door Sensor"
- Go through the commissioning process
- Mount the sensor on the door frame.
| Place your device near the top of the door, on the opening side of the frame. Do not put it too low as it may be knocked out of position. | Keep the sensor and magnet no more than 0.8 inches (2cm) apart and check that the indicator lines are aligned. | After making sure that the door frame is clean and dust-free, peel off the adhesive backing and firmly stick the two parts. |
5. Do a quick test with the LED
Open and close your door. The white LED should be blinking to indicate that a change of state detected.
Install the first PIR Motion Sensor in the bedroom
Here is what you should see in the box. The PIR Motion Sensor consists of two parts: the main sensor unit with the eye and a smaller base component. The two parts are magnetic. The box includes a tape and screws as two options to mount the base component on vertical surfaces.
You need to commissioning the PIR Motion sensor before you can mount it on the door frame.
- Tap on the Set up a single device option at the bottom of the page
- Pick "Motion Sensor"
-
Go through the commissioning process
During the process, remove the plastic white battery tab of the sensor. You are going to need a rigid and thin object (like a coin or a metallic key) to open the sensor.Rotate to open the sensor Use a coin or another tool to unscrew the battery cover Pull out the plastic battery tab Reassemble the sensor - Mount the sensor in the bedroom and point it towards the bed.
- Aim for a minimum height of 1.5 meters (5 ft)
- Clean the area where you will stick the sensor base. Make sure it is dust free for a good adherence
- The base goes on the wall first. The base of the sensor is magnetic. If available, use a metallic surface to easily stick the base of the sensor. For non-metallic surfaces, peel the cover off the 3M tape and stick it to the wall
- Mount the main part of the sensor onto the base (magnetic) and aim the eye of the sensor at the desired area of interest in the room (see placement recommendation above)
- ❌ Do not aim the sensor at heat sources and moving objects to prevent false detections
- ❌ Do not aim at the outside of the room or the entry door
Install the second PIR Motion Sensor in the bathroom
Repeat the same steps for the second sensor and install it in the bathroom.
4. You are now all set to explore the wellness dashboard
Now that the devices have been installed, you can go back to the wellness dashboard and explore nami's care analytics: https://app.nami.surf/wellness
- Desktop and mobile experiences are available
- English, Spanish, French, Dutch and Japanese are currently supported (language selector is in the bottom right corner)
