Welcome to this quick tutorial explaining how to test the first prototype of door sensor. This model is meant for testing and has limited functionalities. Down the road, nami will develop the remaining software to support more features and better integrate it in the app.
Pre-requisites
1. Make sure you are using a correct version of the nami app
These version will allow you to test the door sensor
iOS (TestFlight) | 1.13 (202409240430) - or newer |
Android (test build) | 1.7.3 (version code 279 ) - or newer |

2. Make sure you have set up a nami border router in your place
You can use a nami SensePlug, a nami Alarm Pod or a nami WiDAR.
The border router must be online in order for the commissioning of the door sensor to succeed.
3. You will need double-sided tape to mount the device on the door frame
Set up your Door Sensor
1. Log in to the nami app, set up a single device flow
Use the app to set up your Door Sensor as a single device.
Yo into the place settings, scroll down to find the "Set up a single device".
2. Choose the zone with the border router already set up, and specify the room where your device will be placed
The zone must already contain an online border router, or else pairing will fail.
Select an existing room to indicate where your Door Sensor will be placed.
3. Remove the battery tab (if any)
Remove the battery tab from your Door Sensor to activate it.
4. Scan the QR code at the back of your door sensor
Scan the QR code on your Door Sensor located on the back of the device.
5. Activate pairing mode
Press the top button once to activate the pairing mode of your Door Sensor.
The LED should pulse blue, indicating pairing mode.
If that is not the case, please press and hold the top button for 5 consecutive seconds to reset the Door sensor.
6. Install your Door Sensor
After completing the remaining steps in the app, it’s time to install your Door Sensor.
Note that a Door Sensor cannot be installed on windows.
The main sensor unit should be installed on the door itself, while the smaller magnetic component should be installed on the door frame.
- Ensure the installation area is clean and dust-free
- Place your device near the top of the door
- Keep the sensor and magnet no more than 0.8 inches apart, with their indicator lines aligned
- Use double sided-tape to mount the device on the door frame
Test your Door Sensor
Test your Door Sensor anytime by opening and closing the door.
1. The LED on the device will blink when detecting a change of state
2. The device page in the nami app will show the state update
Limited functionalities (September 2024)
Push notification related to Door sensor data are not yet available.
Modes related features integrating the Door sensor are not yet available.
History of open/closed state of the Door sensor is not yet available.
Why isn't my door sensor working?

Check the placement of the sensor and magnet
- Ensure the sensor and magnet are properly aligned. If they have moved, they might not be aligned anymore
- Reposition the sensor and magnet so they are no more than 0.8 inches apart, with their indicator lines aligned

Check the border router
- The Border Router is a device in your zone that ensures all other devices are connected and working
- Go to your devices list from the Place homepage and see which devices are offline. Check each device page for "Border router" status. If the border router is offline, plug it back in to bring all devices back online

- Ensure your Wi-Fi is connected, as your system won't work without it

Manually resetting my Door sensor
To manually reset your Door sensor, please press and hold the top button of the device for 5 consecutive seconds. Once that is done, press again the top button shortly. The LED should start pulsing blue, indicating pairing mode.
